Best prices and best selection on quality Peterson Pipes since the 1970s. Peterson introduced a revolution in pipe smoking to pipe smokers worldwide by adapting the pipe precisely to the contours of the lips and teeth, ensuring a comfortable and satisfying smoke at all times.
In 1890, Charles Peterson developed what is now known as the Peterson Patent System. The heart of the Peterson System is the unique graduated bore in the mouthpiece. This makes the suction applied by the smoker 15 times weaker by the time it reaches the tobacco chamber. Result: the moisture and bitter tars flow into the reservoir without reaching the smoker's mouth.
You either love it, or hate it.The Peterson Lip further enhances the effectiveness of the graduated bore by directing the smoke up and away from direct contact with the tongue. The smoke is then distributed evenly, drastically decreasing the chance of tongue bite. The shape of the "P-lip" vulcanite mouthpiece is shaped so the tongue rests in the depression under the mouthpiece opening. For those who hate it, most Peterson pipes are available with standard mouthpieces.Sherlock Holmes Original Collection - The most successful series of pipes introduced by Peterson. In 1890, the famous Peterson system pipe introduced a revolution in pipe smoking which brought pleasure to smokers worldwide. This was followed in 1898 by the Peterson Lip mouthpiece, another innovation designed with a deep understanding of the pipeman's needs. The System pipe smokes cool and dry to the last puff and has won for it's creators many Gold Medal awards. The Peterson Lip, by adapting the pipe precisely to the contours of the lips and teeth, ensures a comfortable and satisfying smoke at all times.
Straight Grains - Traditional tools and methods of manufacture contribute to the individuality and unique characteristics of the Peterson Pipe. Briars are carefully examined for imperfections and selected briars of exceptional grain, known as "straight grains" are carefully stored, waiting to be specially carved by hand by our most skilled craftsmen, the hand crafted straight grain pipe and the increasingly rare skill required to make it, is something unique. To watch a craftsman shape, turn, sand and polish the 150 year old root of the erica arboria is to witness something quite special.
Only a very limited quantity of straight grains are available in any twelve month period and regrettably we cannot accept orders for specific shapes with Peterson lip or fishtail mouthpiece.
Hallmarking - Hallmarking is not a legal requirement in many countries but it is in Ireland. Having established the legal standard of purity, the articles are stamped with a series of marks know as Hallmarks .
All Peterson silver mounted pipes carry three distinctive hallmarks:
